i have also already started writing this but it's getting much longer than i have anticipated in the beginning *distressed whale noises* and it's also nothing but angst and death and despair and probably not at all what op had in mind ...

This is delightful! I love how gentle Ardyn is with Regis. Makes me wonder if Ardyn accidentally ran into Regis before a long time ago. Maybe he always wanted to marry Regis because of his poise and grace
