Okay so AUish maybe, but let's say Prompto didn't get out of Nifleheim until he was about 6+, long enough to have a seriously fucked up childhood with with fucked up training/prog amming. As an adult, Prompto has managed to supprese these memories / gone through "deprogramming" so he passes as ordinary manchild with an admitly kida crappy childhood and some crippling insecurities.
Then one day he gets deaged on the journey with bros, and all the training/programming resets and now his bros are super freaked out and worried and maybe a little scared and as they understand better a lot angry.
Prompto can't do anything without direct orders.Even the most basic self-care that you'd expect a child of that age to know. He doesn't know what toys are or how to play, he can't talk because who would converse with a weapon. He's an even better shot than adult Prompto, but like hell they'll let him fight.
Just gimme all the fucked up child soldier angst that was missing in canon, and BB!Prompto getting help from his from his bros.
