Basically, Luna and Noct are set to be in an arranged marriage since they were kids. Noct is brought to Tenebrae every summer to get to know Luna, and they haaaaaaate each other (maybe? that's how it was in the movie, but I suppose you could keep in canon and they can get along. Maybe Luna being older than Noct makes it awkward, idk your choice).
Anyway. They grow up and they meet a last time to see if the marriage will be finalized, but something happens and for ~reasons~ Noct ends up leaving *hand wavy* And then Ardyn shows up and kidnaps Noct and holds him captive somewhere and makes him turn into a swan every night so he can't leave. /blah blah, look up the plot of the movie for more accurate plot info haha
