During the time Prompto was kidnapped, Ardyn didn't torture him in the traditional way. Instead Ardyn spent his time with Prompto describing all the ways Ardyn was going to hurt Noctis. He would describe in excruciating detail how pretty Noctis will look with blood and bruises all over his skin and how lovely his voice will sound when Ardyn ruins him. Maybe he uses his knack for illusions too?(I'm a-ok with it becoming sexual) At first Prompto is disgusted and just wants Ardyn to stop, but as time passes Prompto begins to react differently. All he can think about is seeing his friend in all the horrible situations Ardyn describes, even long after Ardyn has left him for the day, and he finds himself getting less and less disgusted and more intoxicated with the thoughts. So when Noctis finally shows up to save him all Prompto can think about is how pretty Noctis' pale skin would look all cut up and bruised. Maybe Promto is less inclined to help Noctis in battle, instead he was to see the prince take a hit. The bros don't notice anything is different with Prompto until it's too late.
