Fill: "Living the Dream" 1/?, Idol Superstar!Noctis, Gen

It starts out as a peaceful afternoon in the palace.

Noctis is battling a boss in King’s Knight with Gladio, Ignis is dotting down a new recipe he had come up while enjoying a cup of Ebony and Prompto is lazily flipping through the channels on the wall-to-wall flat screen TV.

The peace is shattered when Prompto reaches I.E.T., the kingdom’s leading entertainment news channel.

“In a move of goodwill by the kingdom for the upcoming signing of the peace treaty,” the anchor begins. “A national concert will be hosted the week before the signing. The main star of the concert will be none other than the current princess of the idol world, Lucy.”

Oh fuck, Noctis thinks the same moment Prompto screams, “HELL YES!”

“Oh man, oh man I can’t believe it!” Prompto gushes, practically rocketing off the couch. “Lucy! In the flesh! We need to get tickets to that concert. Front row.”

He immediately turns to the frozen Noctis. “Think you could hook us up, Noct?”

“No,” Noctis immediately says.

“I mean,” he continues when he notices Ignis and Gladio both look up from what they’re doing, eyebrows raised. “What’s so great about Lucy? She’s not that good.”

Prompto is gaping at Noctis like he just shot his puppy in front of his eyes. “Not good? Lucy?!! Are you freaking kidding me, Noct Lucy is AMAZING. She’s like, the manifestation of an angel on earth! She sings, she dances and she’s drop-dead GORGEOUS. What’s so great about her? Everything, that’s what!”

“She’s just an idol,” Noctis mumbles, trying very, very hard to appear as indifferent as possible. “Big deal.”

“She’s not just an idol,” Prompto insists. “If she was, then her shows wouldn’t sell out the minute tickets go on sale and every TV talk show wouldn’t be fighting to have her as a guest. I bet she could even give Lady Lunafreya a run for her money with how popular she is.”

“Luna’s the Oracle,” Noctis points out. “She’s a messenger of the Gods. Lucy’s just an idol that’s popular in the kingdom.”

“Not just in the kingdom,” Ignis pipes in. “It’s just rumors but I have heard whispers among the Council members that it was the empire who requested the concert. Apparently, a large portion of their upper echelon are fans of Lucy. And going by demographics of the people who listen to Lucy’s songs, I would say a good portion of her fans are from countries under the empire as well.”

Noctis can feel himself begin to internally scream at this.

Gladio drops an arm around the still frozen Noctis’ shoulder. “So, your Highness, think you could talk to the record company and get us tickets to her concert?”

“When were you a fan of Lucy?” Noctis manages to croak out, in a futile attempt to stave off the inevitable.

“Since Iris showed me one of her music videos. She’s definitely a looker, that’s for sure and well, I wouldn’t disagree with Prompto about that angel analogy. Iris loves her too, by the way, so make sure to get a ticket for her as well,” Gladio answers, not missing a beat.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Noctis can hear himself faintly mutter, a feeling of resigned horror overcoming him.

(The birth of “Lucy” was by complete accident caused by a series of unfortunate coincidences—for Noctis, at least.

The agency that hires “Lucy”, would like to say otherwise.

To them, “Lucy” is the star and fresh blood they needed to reinvigorate the kingdom’s love for pop music. To them, “Lucy” is their most prized idol with the voice of an earthbound angel capable of reaching the hearts of everyone in the kingdom as evidenced by her staggeringly quick rise to fame and popularity after the release of her first hit single and album.

To Noctis, “Lucy” was the result of an ill-timed meeting while he was in disguise. As a girl.

Welcome, as they say, to hell.)

“Brother.” The greeting is stiff, formal and barely able to pass through Luna’s lips. “What brings you here?”

Ravus Nox Fleuret, high commanding officer in the Niflheim empire army, coldly stares at her in return. “I am here to escort you to Insomnia for the signing.”

“That will not be necessary,” Luna immediately answers, even as she’s internally questioning the abrupt proposition. “I have already made prior arrangements.”

“To arrive on the day of the signing,” Ravus assumes.

“Yes,” Luna reluctantly discloses. She did not want to tell Ravus anymore than she had to, not knowing what he would and wouldn’t disclose to Niflheim.

Ravus darkly scowls. “That is unacceptable. You will be unable to attend the concert then.”

“Concert?” she repeats, caught off-guard. When her estranged brother had come to find her in Tenebrae, this was not what she had been expecting to be talking about.

“Lady Lucy’s concert; I will not have you miss such a glorious moment,” Ravus declares, eyes gleaming with something manic.

Luna recognizes that look; she has seen it in the eyes of many men who have tried to throw themselves at her feet and declare their undying love for her.

It was the look of a fanboy.

“It is likely you do not know of Lady Lucy’s music but that is of no consequence. I will have you familiar with her songs before the concert.” Here, he pulls out his phone the screen already open to a music playlist. “We will begin with Lady Lucy’s first released single, Stand By Me.

An idol, Luna thinks dazedly. It took an idol to make Ravus talk to me again. Maybe I should thank this Lady Lucy when I get to Insomnia…?

(Somewhere in a recording studio in Insomnia, “Lucy” sneezes.)
