They know Noctis's friends, and that Noctis (probably) cares about them, but he's pretty closed up and acts impassive and indifferent. But it's okay, that's just the way he is... And then comes High School and Prompto. Suddenly Noctis starts talking a little bit more, smiling a little bit more, but it's all "Prompto said", "Prompto told me", "Prompto has", "Prompto likes" Prompto, Prompto, Prompto. They both know they are being stupid but they just. hate. the. guy. Just give me some of jealous Ignis and Gladio and poor Prompto who just doesn't know what is going on.
