//Part 2//

By the time Prompto got to the room and shut himself in, his head was spinning and his breathing had taken on a wheezing edge. He didn't bother to turn the light on, keeping the room lit only by the pale glow from the window. Fishing a potion from his bag, he allowed the rest of his gear to fall to the ground, uncaring for all except for the bag with the frogs in, which he managed to remember about and set down on the dresser.

That taken care of, he stumbled to the bed, tightening his grip on the potion. For a moment, he couldn't break it, he was squeezing as tight as he could but his grasp was too weak to smash the bottle. Then a crack appeared and the potion exploded in his hand, the blue aura flooding around and into him. The familiar wave of healing washed over him, bringing a moment of coolness and relief. But as soon as the blue glow faded, the heat to his skin returned - as did the aches in his head, stomach and limbs. Almost on cue, a round of sneezes started, leaving him gasping after.

"Urgh," He moaned to himself, kicking off his boots and peeling off his coat and trousers and leaving them to fall to the floor. "Maybe I should'a let Glads stay with me." He knew he should wash up first, that it might even make him feel better, or should at least check the room to be safe, but his head felt too bunged up to think. Instead, he let himself crawl onto the bed, leaving on his sweat-dampened shirt, his underwear and his socks. He didn't bother getting under the covers, the sheets felt so cool against his heated skin that he couldn't help but sigh in relief. He sniffed, trying to breath through his nose and failing, before closing his eyes and praying to be able to fall asleep.

Dinner was quieter without Prompto, they all noticed it, and it just reinforced to Gladio that his partner was sick and without him. He picked at his food, keeping an eye on his phone at all times, for as long as he could before giving in and announcing he was going to head back.

"I agree," Ignis said, signalling for the waitress and asking for their food to be packed up to go. "I'm anxious to check up on our little Chocobo as well."

Noctis just nodded but was already on his feet, shifting his weight from one to the other in impatience. Gladio felt a flood of warmth for his friends at how openly concerned they were. He knew that Prompto had his insecurities about the group.

"If only you could see how much we miss ya when you're not here." He mumbled quietly to himself as the waitress bought back doggybags for them with their meals.

They had barely left the lift before Ignis was pulling out the room key. "We should be quiet upon entering. Prompto will hopefully already be asleep." Coming to a stop at what Gladio assumed was their door, he slipped the key in as gently as possible and turned it with the knob to open the door. Gladio's eyes did a quick sweep down the two ends of the hall, almost automatically assessing the exit points and possible dangers to his Prince. The internal report continued as he stepped into the room, first as always with Ignis instinctively falling back after Noctis to cover the rear end.

The room was dark, fairly large for the price they had paid and had a separate bathroom with a closed door. Gladio always preferred the slightly cheaper rooms where the bathroom was either open to the room or not included at all, as a separate room just meant somewhere else to hide. Two beds like their last spot, one single and one double, and one window with the curtains still open. Prompto's bags had been dumped at the door and his clothes strewn about the room floor. The blond himself was in the single bed, on his side facing the wall and clearly asleep.

Dimly, Gladio took his Ignis' hushed mutters about Prompto's mess and Noctis' mumbles about taking the floor so that Prompto could keep the bed to himself. He crossed the room and ducked his head into the bathroom, satisfied by the empty shower and windowless walls, before moving to Prompto's claimed bed.

At first, he looked peaceful in his sleep but a slightly longer look told Gladio something wasn't right. His shirt was soaked in sweat and it was visibly beading on his face and arms. His brows were creased and his breathing laboured harshly, a soft wheeze underlying his breathes. Gladio took Prompto's chin in his hand and turned his face towards the light from the window, illuminating the flush on his cheeks. Gladio swore at the warm dampness of Prompto's skin and snapped for Ignis to check him out.

As Ignis checked him over, Gladio took a step back to allow him room and was joined by Noctis after he had flicked the light on.

"He not looking any better?" Noctis asked, stepping up on his tiptoes to get a look over Ignis's shoulder.

Gladio shook his head. "Worse."

"Shit."

Ignis glanced behind at them at the curse but didn't say anything, instead he patted Prompto's cheek gently. "Up you wake, Prompto, come now."

Prompto's eyes fluttered open on command and he groaned immediately. His whole body tensed and shifted as if trying to get up but unable. When he spoke his voice was weak and airy.

"Wassup Igs? I don't feel good."

Hushing him, Ignis lowered his tone to a soft murmur. "I know, it's ok. I just need to know if you used a potion or not."

Closing his eyes tight, Prompto nodded. "Yeah, didn't work too well though... still feel shitty. We gotta move?"

Moving forwards, Noctis put a hand on Ignis's arm to lean over him and smile at Prompto. "Hey bro. Don't worry, we're not going anywhere till you're feeling better. You'd fall off your Chocobo like this huh?"

"Could sleep in the Regalia," Prompto said and then paused to cough. "Can move if we need to."

"Chill out dude, we're good here."

"'Kay. Just lemme know when."

Ignis stood back to Gladio and Noctis was immediately pressed against him to speak in a hushed voice. "What's going on Iggy? He didn't look this bad earlier and a potion should have made him a bit better at least, not worse!"

"I know Noct. It is very peculiar. I can't think of anything that could have caused something like this to manifest so quickly."

"Something musta happened." Gladio growled, tearing his eyes off Prompto as Noctis stepped up to the dressing table.

"Sania was studying mutations on the frogs right?"

Ignis frowned and Gladio huffed. "Not the time for the toads Noct, we have bigger issues."

Noctis shook his head, motioning to the moving bag. "I'm just thinking, Prompto found most of them didn't he? And he carried them back. You don't suppose...?" His words trailed off but the other two had caught on by then.

"Something to go with the frogs? Normally I wouldn't even entertain the idea, but, as you said, Sonia was tracking their mutations. I think we should head on to Sania's tonight rather than wait until morning."

Gladio glanced at Prompto's shuddering form on the bed. "I don't think he's going anywhere."

"Then we split up tonight," Noctis announced, lifting his head and taking on the tone of voice that meant he had decided something. Ignis often called it his 'kingly voice' but Gladio mainly heard it when Noctis got to choose what was for dinner. "It won't take long in the Regalia, we'll be back before dawn of we leave now. Gladio, you should stay with Prompto."

Every part of Gladio wanted to accept this offer and kiss his Prince for suggesting it; but instead he forced himself to shake his head. "I should stay with you, Noct, especially if you're leaving before it gets light out."

"We're going straight there and back, we won't stop the Regalia for anything, right Iggy?"

Ignis nodded, already shifting through his bags in preparation to leave. "Of course. I can watch Noctis for one night alone, Gladio."

"But-" Gladio flicked his eyes between Noctis and Prompto. "I shouldn't-"

Rolling his eyes, Noctis crossed his arms with a huff. "It's literally one night Glad. Not even. I swear we will drive away from every fight. We wanna get back here as soon as possible." He glanced at Prompto and kicked at Gladio's boot lightly. "Besides, I'd feel better knowing you're with him since he can't fend for himself at the moment."

Biting his lip and frowning, Gladio hesitated for a moment longer before giving in. "Okay. Thank you, Noct." He stuck a finger in the Princes' face, making Noctis blink. "I want you to call me every ten minutes though, no moaning."

Noctis whined while Ignis passed him his bag, fishing the car keys from his pocket. "I feel I should be offended at how worried you are about leaving the Prince-sitting solely to me but I suppose you are the Shield for reason. Come Noctis, we're wasting time."

"Prince-sitting," Noctis parroted, grabbing the bag of frogs and holding it at arms length. "You haven't called it that in years."

Opening the door, Ignis turned to Gladio. "We will be back as soon as the Regalia can get us here. Keep an eye on his breathing and try not to let him get too hot. If he gets worse you could use another potion to try and keep it at bay."

"Talk to you soon!"

Gladio glanced at his watch. "Nine minutes and counting, Noct."

"I'm not even in the car yet, yeesh!"
