For some handwavey reason Prompto's parents survived the attack on Insomnia and the years of darkness. So Prompto runs into them, either during or after the world of ruin, and asks them all the questions he had. If it's during the World of Ruin, he offers them protection and food. Basically he hopes to get closure for his lonely childhood.
