Maybe it's just bad timing, or stress, or maybe they're just too used to being able to shut any disagreement with him down and for some reason nothing is working this time. But either way, Prompto is pissing whoever off, and the blonde says just the wrong thing in just the wrong tone and Gladio or Ignis just kind of snaps and slaps Prompto just to get him to be quiet. It works.
Cue Prompto being so taken aback and shocked that he can't even really speak. And Gladio or Ignis, either because of pride or because they truly believe they're right about whatever, doesn't immediately apologize, but instead reiterates their point and walks away. Only to later really think about their actions and be horrified that they raised a hand at their friend.
I'd like to read the moment and the aftermath if possible. Whether it's pairing or gen doesn't matter, but I'd like to see the impact something like this would happen on the relationship. As long as there's a resolution in the end.
+If Prompto actually had a good point in whatever the argument was, maybe a perspective that only a commoner could have?
++If Noctis finds out and is. Pissed.
+++If Prompto refuses to accept an apology unless Gladio or Ignis really listen to his viewpoint.

Noct learning to live without magic/the armiger

... That sounded really angsty (and I don't mind angst, if that's what speaks to you), but I'm also thinking of all the really funny things that can arise from this situation:
Having to re-learn to fight, and he keeps throwing his weapons away because he expects to warp.
Randomly dropping things from his hand and being surprised when they crash to the floor, because he expects them to disappear into the armiger.
Losing everything and constantly misplacing things, because before he could just keep it in the armiger and pull anything he needed out of it with a thought and a flick of the wrist.
Not being able to shake the mindset that all what ails him can be cured by drinking a sports drink.
