Additionally: Do not repost prompts from the previous round in their entirety. By this we mean copying and pasting prompts without any changes. If you see a similar prompt to a prior prompt, that is not a repost. Obviously prompts that are reposted per the above rule do not count either. (After all, they will be similar but not the same.)

Ignis yes; but Gladio seemed like such an asshole for the later half of the game. Like when Noct was starting to think for himself and later actually grieve and feel rather than pretend it (Insomnia's Fall, Luna's Death) didn't happen, Gladio started getting really on his case. Which seemed to just throw Noct further into self-hatred/disgust that he wasn't strong enough to stop/save/fix anything.
But I've been fighting depression for a decade and Noct is easy to empathize with. So I could be reading Gladio as more of an asshole than he was meant to be.

The game did a really poor job of showing this, but weeks had passed between the attack on Altissia and the train stuff. And yeah, I know, that weeks aren't enough time to "get over" something like a death, but Noctis had a job to do. A mission. And he was frozen. He wasn't stepping up to the plate, and that infuriated Gladio.

I think Gladio is an interesting character. On one hand, it's his job to be a literal human shield to Noctis. So his life by definition is less important than Noct's. And he knows for sure that his father, the king's Shield, died trying to protect King Regis. It's a duty he takes seriously.

On the other hand, he's a hothead and lacks patience.

So to see Noctis fall apart like that, he must have thought to himself "am I really going to put my life on the line for this guy"? Someone who seemingly doesn't care enough about the lives that have been sacrificed for him so far, who wilts under pressure rather than march forward to get revenge/face his destiny, etc?

But as far as his character in relation to the prompt, I can see him being really impatient with Noct up until the point he gets the pertinent information that Noctis has an old injury. And then he'd probably work around the problem with him. (And then if Noct continued to ignore the stretching exercises and physical therapy and continued to do badly, he's probably get annoyed with him again, yeah)

I agree with this. Thigh it's not Noctis' fault, Gladio has been raised to believe that Noctis is supposed to meet a certain kingly idral, and that his own life is less important than that ideal. He knows by this point that his own father has died protecting King Regis, and that it's his duty to die protecting Noctis when it comes down to it. He's also been raised to believe that there's nobility and worth in it, maybe even glory, but the reality is just that Noctis is not acting like he's on a royal destined quest, or even that he (they?) should defy this royal death quest. At thebsame time, he sees that Ignis (who's loyal and supportive of Noctis to the point of giving up everything) is still determined, yet Noctis (at least from his POV) is just distant and avoidant.

I read Gladio as being scared and lashing out on the train.

Different anon - my take on it is that Gladio is just really, really bad at dealing with emotions himself. He's clearly physically inclined and kind of a hothead, no matter how much he consciously tries to be responsible and stuff, and when things are severely stressful with no valid outlet, he lashes out because he can't deal with it.

Plus, he clearly idolised Clarus and Regis and clearly thought that 'stoic badass implacable Shield and wise responsible good King' was the ultimate dynamic to aspire to, which is why he is such a dick to Noct in the anime because all he's seeing is a bratty little kid who doesn't live up to his father and doesn't seem to care. He matures a bit and obviously learns more about Noct and becomes close to him on his own terms, as friends, but when the chips are down and he's dealing with his own shit (badly) that old bad habit of comparing him to the idealised Regis-style King he wanted so badly to be Shield to comes out.

Everything they worked for, pretty much, went up in smoke in Altissia, and there wasn't an easy target to beat up to fix it or get revenge. And Ignis got seriously hurt, on top of that, which had to make him feel like shit because they were on the same team doing evacuation stuff. And Noct's out for days, compounding the worry, and then instead of being kingly and pushing through after a few days (like Regis must have done when Noct's mom died) Noct was retreating into himself and hiding from his responsibilities for weeks, to an outside observer. I think all of that made him the unfortunate venting point for Gladio's frustration and poor emotional coping mechanisms, and what would have been a perfectly necessary 'i get it but we need to move forward' conversation came out terribly and angrily and then escalated rapidly.

Like, it's not just Noct - he shoves Prompto away by the face in the heat of the moment, and even as he's protective over Ignis, it seems to manifest in More Yelling or he ends up saying things that emphatically don't help or are accidentally insulting, and the scene after the Tomb is more of the same, but it's not from a genuine place of being mad at Ignis or even, I think, hating Noctis on any level - Gladio's just fucking terrible at handling stress and high tensions/emotions. Someone give the man an Ardyn punching bag to take his frustrations out on, please.

Oh, wow. This is the best take on Gladio's issues I think I've ever seen and this is 100% how I see the events after Altissia. I have been looking for a good fic that handles exactly this, and you just summarized it in a random comment on the meme. :0

Think of it this way: of there's anyone who knows what it feels like to be raised to die, it's Gladio - and he's never been shielded from it that way Noct has (pun unintended). So, if you know you're going to die for someone, what kind of person would you want them to be to make your sacrifice worth it?

At the end of the day, Noctis is meant to be the leader and Gladio is a follower who needs someone to lead him well. And in a time of crisis especially, leadership needs quick and decisive action. It's not a concept that's new to Noctis either - he's a prince, raised to take on the mantle, and he's been meant to be stepping up since Insomnia fell.

I'm not saying Gladio's completely in the right, because he's definitely a dick and the point he was trying to make was clouded in a lot of frustration and anger and fear on his part. And for Noct's part, it's definitely easy to understand and empathise with his position - I really felt for him and related to the way he reacted too. But really, Noct's an introvert who internalised his feelings and Gladio's an extrovert who externalised his feelings and neither of them really handled that situation well. (Though it's hard to handle such a situation 'well' in any case.)
