Prompto wasn't at school. Which was worrying enough since he practically lived at home by himself and also because with his scholarship with the school meant his attendance, along with his grades, were being scrutinized carefully by the school staff.

Noctis ignored his bouncing leg and his professor lecture, trying to soothe the desire to call or text Prompto to make sure he's alright, but he couldn't. Slipping his phone into his hand discreetly confirmed what he already knew. The school did something in order to scramble the signal so students couldn't use their phones in classrooms.

It sucked that even his phone was effected by it. As crown prince, that's just ridiculous. What if something important was going on at the Citadel? Perhaps he needed to text Ignis that Prom was coming over to his apartment, so could he make more food?

Or make sure Prompto's okay?

He groaned silently and looked up at the clock on the wall. Only several minutes had passed since the last time he had checked. Clenching his teeth, Noctis put his phone away and tried to pay attention to whatever the teacher was talking about.

Since he was stuck in the classroom until Lunch, where he could go outside and actually have phone service, he should take notes for himself and Prompto.

And if Prompto hadn't responded to his text, he could tell Specs to stop by Prompto's place, so he could drop off the notes.

---

Noctis walked outside into the courtyard and away from the prying eyes of the staff to a secluded location that he and Prompto usually sat at to eat and pulled out his phone. He bit his lip in displeasure because, while he managed to pay attention and write down notes from class, Prompto had still not responded to his earlier text.

[to Prom]: youre missing a good lunch
[to Prom]: specs made those dessert thingys that you like

He put down his phone and knew if anything got Prompto to text back, it was about games, photo ops or food. Especially food made by Ignis. Noctis smirked, recalling a time where he had sent Prompto a picture of something Ignis had left for him at his apartment and having Prompto text that he was on his way and there had better still be food left for him.

Noctis sighed, then frowned. His sigh was too loud in the quiet. It was in these moments, where the absence of Prompto's presence was starkly made. He was so used to being alone and the quiet, that he never noticed until his best friend had come into his life and brought in sound with a pretty laugh.

Eating his lunch, alone, just brought into stark contrast how much better his life had become since Prompto had introduced himself and they've become best friends.

Pulling himself from his melancholy thoughts, he focused on his lunch, barely tasting the food he chewed. Lunch was almost over, so he pulled out his phone and felt what little hope he had dwindled when his notification screen was empty.

Shaking his head, he packed up his lunch and sent a few more texts before heading back inside school to his classroom.

[to Prom]: are you ok?
[to Prom]: if you don't reply by the time school is out im coming over
[to Prom]: ill even break down the door if you dont answer

---

Noctis wanted to jump out of his seat and warp to get outside sooner because it would bring him one step closer to seeing if Prompto replied to his texts. But he didn't; he didn't need the student body panicking over weapons suddenly materializing in his hands and then him disappearing and reappearing.

Not to mention, the lecture he would be sure to get would be taking up his time from more important things.

Instead, he calmly stood up, gathered his things and prepared to speed walk to where Ignis would, no doubt, be waiting.

"P-Prince Noctis?"

He paused at the soft words and doubted for a moment if he had actually heard them. Looking over his shoulder, he met the eyes of one of his classmates - Chere, he recalled dimly because even though he barely socialized with anyone besides Prompto at school, it was important to know everyone around him - shifting on her feet nervously.

He smiled. It kinda reminded him of Prompto. Then clenched his fist at that thought, talking to her would delay him, but he already made eye contact with her. Not to mention, a voice in his head - that sounded strangely like Prompto - was encouraging him to talk to their classmates.

Sighing, he unclenched his fist and turned around to properly face her. Giving a smile that hopefully wasn't too strained. "Hi, Chere."

Chere eyes widen, as if not expecting the Prince to know her name. "Um, Prompto wasn't here today. I-Is he okay?"

As casually as he could, he shrugged his should. "I don't know. He hasn't replied to my texts. I was actually on my way to check on him." Although, Prompto would be happy that a female classmate had inquired about his wellbeing, he thought sourly and hastily pushed that thought out of his mind.

Chere glanced down and wrung her hands together. "Could... could you tell him I'm sorry?"

Noctis frowned, what would have happened to make her sorry? From what he could recall about her, she was nice, a scholarship student and got good grades. "Why?"

She wrung her hands tighter. "I didn't get him help yesterday? I thought they would've returned to class after..."

Noctis strained his ears to hear her and he paused to make sure he heard right, before he narrowed his eyes and focused his attention fully on her. "Explain." It wasn't a question, and he could see how his voice made her shrink, but he didn't feel sorry.

---

He wasn't sure when he left school, but the next thing he knew, he was standing outside of Prompto's house. Testing the door knob, he was surprised that it turned all the way and his worry increased. Prompto was security conscious; he would never leave or enter his house without locking the door.

Pushing his way inside, he stalked his way through the quiet house, hoping that Prompto had managed to find his way back home and he wasn't hiding out somewhere in Insomnia. Opening the door to Prompto room, he looked around and saw clothing littered on the floor. On second inspection, it was their school uniform. Good. Prompto made it back okay.

Noctis stepped over the clothes to the bundled up form under the covers. His sigh of relief stopped when he saw the hand shaped bruise mark on Prompto's arm.

"I walked in on T-Turluk pressing Prompto against the wall. Him, his friends and.... a few of our classmates have been harassing him when you're not around."

He hissed and restrained himself from yelling. Someone as bright and cheery as his friend didn't deserve to get harassed because of their classmates insecurity.

"Noct?"

For a second, he thought his hissing woke Prompto up until he realized that the voice that spoke was too cultured. Ignis.

He slammed the door to the car and ignored the reproaching look Ignis was giving him through the rear view mirror. "Take me to Prompto's. And give me everything you got on Turluk Guado."

Ignis nodded before turning the car into traffic. "Any reason why."

"Proms being harassed."

Despite how hard it was, he turned and followed Ignis out to the hallway and closed the door behind him to hopefully not disturb Prompto rest. "What did you find?"

"Turluk Guado is from a noble line. One that has fallen out of favor."

He grinned, that was good news.

"I have taken the liberty of informing Gladio, who has just informed me that he was about to engage our target."

Noct frowned and open his mouth to protest.

Ignis raised his hand. "While I'm sure you would want nothing else but to join him, we have another priority that takes precedence." He gestured his hand towards the door.

Noctis frowned, but nodded. Gladio would give Turluk a sound beating along with some threats to stay away from Prompto. And, he recalled the bruise on Prompto arm, they need to learn the extent of injuries and help Prom recover. "You're right. Prom's got a nasty bruise on his arm and who knows what else; we're taking him to the apartment."

"I'm sure we can get your Majesty to agree for Gladio and I to shadow you for a while, since a classmate of yours getting horrendously beaten up is a grave sense of concern."

Looking at Ignis and seeing how the light reflected off his glasses ominously, Noctis nodded. When those two were done 'shadowing' him, no one would dare harass Prompto again.
